What is the Think Tank Task Force?

Help shape the future of APDT!! We have renovated the Think Tank, and we are excited to announce that we will be offering randomly-selected APDT members the chance to participate in the Think Tank for a one-year term. Keep an eye on your mailbox to see if you are selected!

Q&A:

Q: What is the Think Tank?

A: The Think Tank is a group of fifty members whose ideas, opinions, and feedbackwill be solicited as needed on various topics throughout the year. Topics will be assigned by the Board, the Executive Director, and Committee and Task Force Chairs. (The APDT Think Tank in no way replaces current feedback mechanisms available to members.) New members will begin their one-year term on July 1, 2007. Members have staggered terms, so that every 6 months a new group of 25 is selected.

Q: What would be required of me as a Think Tank member, and how much time would I need to devote?

A: All those selected to the Think Tank will be expected to do the following:

  • Be easily reached by e-mail and phone.
  • Devote up to several hours monthly in response time to provide feedback on various topics; there will be multiple requests each year. The work load will vary from month to month.
  • Provide constructive input in requested format by designated deadline.
  • Accept attribution for input.
  • Have an interest in all of the various organizational and operational aspects of the APDT.

The amount of time the Think Tank will require will vary depending upon the amount and type of questions/issues presented to the Think Tank, but on average, it will take about an hour or so per week. Some weeks will require no work; others might require a little extra -- it all depends on what questions are up for discussion at the time.

Q: How will you randomly select the members? Why are you doing a random selection?

A: We wanted to ensure as diverse of a group as possible -- random selection of all membersis the best vehicle for this. In the past, we have solicited volunteers, but we are trialing the random selection method.  We will try the random selection method using a computerized random-number generator. We will send invitations to 100 people and the first 25 to respond will become part of the Think Tank (we do need people who are able to respond to emails promptly to make sure the Think Tank functions properly.)

Q: How many of us will you select?

A: We will send random invitations to 100 members. The first 25 who accept the invitation will become the newest members of the Think Tank. (If you feel the Think Tank is not for you, you are of course free to decline the invitation!) So check your email early and often!

Q: Who is eligible to serve?

A: All full, lifetime, and associate members.
