Soraya Juarbe-Diaz has the longest established behavior referral practice in the state of Florida. Known as Dr. JD to owners throughout the state, she received a B.S. in biology and a D.V.M. degree from Cornell University. She was in mixed practice for two years and in small animal practice for nearly six years before returning to her alma mater for specialty training in veterinary behavior medicine.
Dr. JD finished her residency in 1996 and received her board certification in 1997. In the fall of that year, she relocated to Florida and established a referral veterinary behavior practice that sees cases in five Florida locations.
In addition to running her practice, Dr. JD has been an adjunct professor at the University of Florida's College of Veterinary Medicine and an Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee's College of Veterinary Medicine, teaching veterinary behavior medicine to students and interested hospital staff. Because of her academic and general practice experience, she brings to her professional endeavors a drive for excellence and a desire to stay abreast of advances in veterinary behavior medicine … along with the common sense needed to make things work in the real world.
Dr. JD serves in several committees of the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists, is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Veterinary Behavior: Clinical Applications and Research and is a reviewer for several veterinary professional journals. She is a speaker at local, national and international veterinary meetings and behavior conferences and also the author of a variety of papers and articles on behavior written for professional and lay publications. She was a monthly guest host for a nationally syndicated live radio show for six years.
Dr. JD makes time to enjoy the finer things in life – chocolate, coffee, the company of friends and horseback riding. Her animal companions are all adopted rescues and throw-aways; all have become her priceless and invaluable treasures.
