Ranchin,’ Ropin’ an’ Doctorin’ says it all – it’s the title of one of Dr. Miller’s cartoon books, and also describes his life experience.

Dr. Miller received his DVM from Colorado State University in 1956.  After graduating and settling in Thousand Oaks, California, he founded the Conejo Valley Veterinary Clinic where he worked as an equine veterinarian and became well-known for his animal behavior expertise.

In 1987, after more than 30 years of “doctorin’,” Dr. Miller retired and became a leading voice in the revolution in horsemanship.  As a natural horseman, Dr. Miller believes horses and people share a common bond.  He works to strengthen that connection by promoting humane, effective training between horses and humans. He devotes his time to teaching equine behavior and supporting the ongoing revolution in horsemanship.

Dr. Miller has visited every continent, giving lectures at colleges and conventions for animal groups, horse organizations, and breed associations.  He is best known for his scientific system of training newborn foals. Imprint training, if done correctly, is the fastest, most profound method of permanently shaping a horse's responses and attitude, and is now in use all over the world.

Dr. Miller’s acute sense of humor and love of cartoons have produced seven veterinary cartoon books, including Ranchin,’ Ropin’ an’ Doctorin’.   His other work includes books and videos explaining equine behavior, natural horsemanship and imprint training techniques.   He is the author of Imprint Training, Understanding the Ancient Secrets of the Horse’s Mind, The Revolution in Horsemanship, and Natural Horsemanship Explained. His videos include Early Learning, Understanding Horses, and Safer Horsemanship.
