SERVICE DOG SEMINAR BASICS

This seminar will discuss the topic of service dog basics. We will introduce the definitions and scope of what a service dog is. We will explain the different training goals: related to the handler and for the professional trainer. We will discuss training and techniques in general, the laws & ethics of using service dogs in the United States and discuss the various types and uses of service animals. A Pet CPR/First Aid Certification course will be included with hands on practice. We will have a veterinary technician at our round table to discuss animal husbandry and special needs regarding service animals. In addition, we will have two speakers; both of which are actively using service animals in the community…one of which is an U.S. Army veteran and the other is a police K-9 officer. Who should attend?…Trainers wanting to learn more on this topic for their clubs or businesses, dog owners/parents who want to get more information about adding a service dog to their home, veterinarians/vet staff/medical personnel and anyone interested in or indirectly involved with service animals (nurse educators, caregivers,etc). In addition, a two hour Pet CPR/First Aid course and certification will be included (instructed by Dr. Lisa Booth). There will be a police K9 demo and discussion regarding service dogs in the community. This course will have lecture and hands on training. Elaborate buffet lunch will be included with drinks and snacks available all day. Service dogs and friendly pet dogs welcome that can rest quietly at your side or in a crate. There is plenty of crating space, parking and many local hotels.
